In comparison to the EE, the IAs are less intense. The only true difference between the two is that. Otherwise, as you are plainly taught diverse content, IAs and their corresponding mark schemes will vary per subject.
A Business IA, for instance, will be evaluated using a different set of criteria than a Chemistry IA. Regarding the former, your evaluation might be based on the sources you used for the IA (based on whether you are HL or SL), the strength of your argument, your comprehension of the course material you write about, etc.
For the latter, you might be evaluated based on the uniqueness of your experiment, the degree of accuracy with which you analyzed your findings (e.g., by providing an explanation for the exclusion of certain variables or by having some sort of intuition as to why your results were not what you expected), the uniqueness of your hypothesis, etc.
